Today I will be showing you an animation that me and Nasteho made together. We made a animation instead of a film because of covid and lockdown. This animation is call Homeless - rich to poor. I really enjoyed working with Nasteho because she was really helpful. I found that it was hard to find images i was allowed to use. I'm proud that we finished in time and that we had a good story. If I could go back and change something I would add more to the story so it could be more interesting.
If we missied anything please leave us a comment. See you next time!Kia Ora Bloggers!
Today was so fun because we went to the olympic fan zone! There were lots of stalls to explore and lot of fun things to do. There were lots of games and activities to do. My favorite game was the one where we had to throw a bean bag in a whole because it was really hard.
After the games we moved on and we got a pamphlet with a lot of questions for us to answer. We went to the japanese stall and learnt a few words. Next we went to a wall with all the names of NZ olympians and we had to find out how many where in there. Then we went to the giant skateboard! ( yes there was a giant skateboard, it was 12 meters long). Last we went to the fan zone and watched to canoe racing.
I learnt that there were 1389 NZ olympians, the three olympic values and that 211 nz athletes are competing this year.
See you later bloggers!
Hello Bloggers,
Today Paterson class had a bike riding lesson! Before we did anything we had to go over the safety rules like tie your laces and to take off your jacket if its around your waist
Then we got to pick out our helmets, Jason and Loni ( our bike instructors ) told us that we needed to check if there were any cracks because if your fall you might crack your head open! Jason and Loni also helped us adjust our helps from the back and from the straps. They also taught us the 2 4 1 rule, you have to have 2 fingers on your forehead then you had to pull your helmet down to your fingers. You have to have 4 fingers on the straps on the side of your ear and there is a buckle that has to be under your ear. Then 1 finger should fit under your chin and strap.
Now onto picking our bikes! Loni asked who didn't know how to ride a bike or wasn't confident so she could take them and teach them. Then Jason told all the tall people to go get a black bike because they were bigger. Then everyone else went and got a bike. Before we got on we learnt the ABCD rule. First check for Air, second check your Brakes, Third check you Chain and Last but least check if your handels are in the right Direction.
Now onto riding! ( My favourite part ). First we were split into groups ( I was in the yellow group - or group three). Each group had a lane. At first we just had to ride and go back to the back of our line but after a few rounds of that we learnt about the signals to indicate cars where we were going. We had to ride then when we past the yellow line we had to point where we were going ( it was so fun ). Then Jason held up different coloured bean bags and he would call out look. We had to look quickly and shout out the colour. Then the last game was turtle race. The slowest person to reach the yellow line won! ( Our team only won once 😕 ). I found the turtle race really hard because I kept falling down.
Thats was all! We also are going to have another lesson tomorrow! By the way here is a picture our teacher took of us.
Kia Ora bloggers,
For the last two weeks Paterson class has been learning about wayfinding navigation and waka.
Yesterday we made our waka hourua on tinkercad. Here is what mine looks like.
My waka hourua has 2 strong hulls, 2 sails made out of strong flax and 1 hut that can fit all of us. My waka is very strong too, it can hold all 31 of us!
My job on this waka is to be a cook. As the cook I need to make food for the crew and captain. The fisherman brings me the raw fish and I make lots of yummy food for everyone. Sometimes when we have left over food (that rarely happens because everyone is so hungry!) I have to put it in the storage and sometimes it rots (that is not good).
If you ever make a waka please comment and tell me how it went!

Today I will be talking about what way finding navigation. What is way finding navigation? It is what our ancestors used to find New Zealand! They used stars, planets, floating debris, moon, sun, birds and waves. Here is some writing I did about our navigators.
The navigators were really impressive because they could use the stars at night to find their way home. They also found ways to navigate in the day and in the night when it was cloudy.
Navigators also followed the birds and waves to find land.
Did you know that Captain Cook wasn't the founder of New Zealand. Did you know that Captain Cook did not discover New Zealand first? And he didn't do it by himself. A man named Tupaia helped him with the navigation and that's how he got there.
You know, you could be a navigator too. You can find Matariki all through out the year except for June and July, you can't see Matariki in June or July because it is under the horizon( the line where the sky meets the earth). You can find Matariki if you look in the night sky and look to the west you might see it. You can also very easily find it at about 6:50 am in the morning. When the sun is about to rise you will see it near the sun. And you know you've found it when you see this.
Kia Ora Bloggers,
Today I wrote a recount on my exciting day at the zoo! I thought it would be a good idea to share it with you, if you have any feedback or tips please leave a comment.
Yesterday room six, nine and eight went to the zoo! We split up into groups so it would be easier to cover the whole zoo. I was in Ms V’s group with Marcus, Pita, Lanisi, Salote and Mina. Before we went to the zoo we watched a quick video about the rules of the zoo. Some of the rules were; No scooters, whistles, dogs and balloons. After that video we got into the bus and headed to the zoo.
When we arrived at the zoo we sat down in a big meeting area. A lady named Lizzy came in and told us what time we had to be back and the time of the spider monkey show. Then we headed off into the zoo. For some reason we didn’t go into our groups, instead we stayed together as a class. The first animal we saw was the asian small-clawed otter. It was so cute! But it ran away into its hide because people were shouting. Then we saw the ring-tailed lemurs, they were all bunched up on one branch. It was really funny when one of them looked at me because it looked like it was rolling its eyes.
After that we headed to the pride lands to start our tour. A man named PJ showed us around. First thing I saw was a giraffe (did you know that they are the tallest animals on earth?). There were about four giraffe’s, next we saw the zebra’s eating from haynets. After that we saw the rhinos, it was super funny because we didn't see much of the rhinos. We only saw them poop, I saw something big and brown and I pointed it out and said it was rhino poop but then it jumped up and flew away. It was a duck!
Then we went to the empty lion enclosure. It was empty so we asked why, sadly the lions that had been in there had passed away from old age (they were sixteen!). But PJ said that they will be getting some lion cubs soon. After that we got to touch some giraffe poop and some giraffe skin! Then we went to see the meerkats. At first we couldn't see them but when we went into the tunnels we saw them standing up and digging holes. Then lots of people came into the tunnels and I got squished.
After that we went to see the cheetahs. I could only see one of the cheetahs, her name was quartz. The best part of the cheetahs was when quartz rolled on her back and rolled around.
Then we moved on to the baboons. They made us all laugh because they had pink bums, we also saw them picking fleas off each other.
After that we split up and then at one pm we all met up at the spider monkey show. We watched them feed the monkeys whilst we ate lunch.
Kia Ora bloggers,
This week is New Zealand Sign Language or NZSL. Today Papa Jarrod (our te reo teacher) taught us how to spell out our names in sign language and he also showed us how to sign family and Aotearoa. Here is a little video of me doing it. I really enjoyed doing this because it was fun to see other people signing their names. I found it a bit challenging to remember how to do each letter but in the end I figured it out.
